12 Highlights of CitizenCon - Part 2

The second part of the 12 highlights of CitizenCon video discusses changes to flight and combat mechanics, including new flight modes and improvements to quantum travel and combat AI. It also highlights the importance of cargo elevators, hangars, revamped star maps, new factions and armor changes, and provides updates on the progress of Squadron 42, the single-player campaign of Star Citizen.

In part two of the 12 highlights of CitizenCon, the video discusses the changes to flight and combat mechanics showcased during Yogi’s presentation. The new flight mechanics include a slower high performance mode called sem or space combat maneuvering, and a navigation mode for faster speeds similar to those found in the Persistent Universe (PU). Quantum travel is also getting completely overhauled with a more physicalized approach, adding gameplay elements and skill to QT jumping. Combat will see new AI behaviors and weapon recalibration, with longer effective ranges but more spread. The new aerodynamic flight model will force ships to fly more realistically in atmosphere, with thrusters overheating and short periods of hovering.

The video highlights the importance of cargo elevators and hangars, which will provide easier access to items and vehicles in the persistent universe. This will be particularly useful for organizing events like races, where vehicles can be loaded onto ships from the hangar. The star map is also getting a complete overhaul, with less clutter, smoother zooming, and a unified system that goes down to the FPS level. Local maps can be downloaded from specific map kiosks and will be tradeable on a marketplace.

New factions are being introduced into the game, bringing variety and diversity to the universe. The new Dusters faction, inspired by the Micro Battle Suit armor, looks particularly exciting. Changes to armor are also in the works, with more specialized class categories and perks tied to specific roles. Huge new locations called distribution centers will be added, offering a variety of friendly and hostile mission types.

Lastly, the video discusses the highly anticipated Squadron 42, the single-player campaign of Star Citizen. The presentation and trailer showed the game to be feature complete and in the polishing phase, creating a lot of hype among players. A release date was not provided, but the team’s focus on polishing suggests a “ready when it’s ready” approach. The video concludes by mentioning that more in-depth videos diving into specific subjects will be made in the future, and invites viewers to share their own highlights in the comments section.
